ive been in a metal band and have been going to a lot of loud concerts for the last 3 years without using hearing protection for a majority of the time..last september, i developed tinnitus and have confirmed with an audiologist that i have a minor hearing loss..now i always make sure i wear ear plugs at band practice, shows, and for any other loud activities..for the most part, i have learned to live with it and have it pretty much under control, but i was just wondering if there were any other musicians with tinnitus on here that would like to talk and share experiences, stories, or coping methods? only anwer if your going to give a serious response, please.

Earlier on in the year, I’ve started hearing these little ringing noises, usually when I’m going to bed, or after I listen to my mp3. I thought it’d go away soon but now I’ve started noticing the ringing more often and louder too – and it’s especially worst when I’m somewhere quiet, like when I’m reading. Otherwise, when I’m distracted with other things or talking to others I don’t notice it as much. The ringing is very annoying and I’m starting to worry that it could be a symptom of a disease or illness. Does anyone know if this could be an ear tumour?
Other than the ringing, I there’s also the cracking sounds I hear when I swallow or yawn, but otherwise, no hearing loss (or none that I notice, just yet).

I was rearended by a teen talking on her cell phone. Suffer whiplash etc. Prior to the accident I did not have high blood pressure or tinnitus. A specialist at the Clinic ran tests. Test prooves hearing loss gap of high frequencies where people with this "dip" suffer tennitis. Finally a test prooves I was really hurt. But both technician and doctor immediately said they can not confirm it was caused by the accident? Doctor was a real jerk. talking about how many people suffer from tinnitus and there is no cure. Told me to put my radio on FM at night between channels. I am already going out of my skin from the nonstop buzzing in my ear. I will go nuts if I listen to off station noises. The doctor was so quick to dispute liability for the accident. I did not have buzzing in my ears before the accident. I would have gone to the docs. Then he said maybe I would have woken up in five years with tinnitus any way. I am in my late 50’s. I was never exposed to loud noises prior to the accident to cause hearing loss. Why would the doctor screw up my chances for a settlement? Her insurance company has been paying the Clinic’s bills for PT and doctor visits including ER visit.

I’ve had meniere’s disease for 6 years. I’ve had a shunt put in my ear and have had some hearing loss. I’m curious if anyone else who has this problem hears themselves when they talk. Sounds weird I know, but it’s like an echo in my ear that sometimes drives me nuts. I was also not aware that this might cause problems throughout my life. I figured that the shunt would take care of everything, but within the past year I have had problems with labrynthitis and tinnitus. Anyone with any input would be helpful.
